David Sanchez' CARIB - West Coast Tour, April 2018
Earlier this month, I had the great fortune to travel out West for a short series of concerts with the incredible saxophonist David Sanchez, and his amazing band Carib. We played at SFJazz, The Musical Instrument Museum in Phoenix, and at the Jazz Bakery in LA. This project is very near and dear to my heart, as David has written some very beautiful original music, inspired by his deep love for, and research into the musical traditions of his native Puerto Rico, and exploring connections with some of the traditional music of Haiti. The resulting compositions are uniquely his own, yet contain many elements from both traditions, and are brought to life by the musicians of Carib;
David Sanchez - tenor sax, percussion
Luis Perdomo - piano, Fender Rhodes
Lage Lund - electric guitar
Ricky Rodriguez - electric/upright bass
Jhan Lee Aponte - percussion, dance
Obed Calvaire - drums,percussion
Markus Schwartz - percussion
The band recorded this music last last year, and David plans to release Carib this summer.
