Lakou Brooklyn Quartet celebrate their new Soundkeeper Recordings CD “Kay Say”. Recorded in a church dating from 1864, the mesmerizing sounds of music from Haiti blend with the sophisticated jazz sensibilities of the players and soulful vocals to create sounds both heart-wrenching and life-affirming. Kay Sa was recorded "live" (for the microphones) in a single session. Featuring: Markus Schwartz: Haitian drums & percussion, vaksin (bamboo horn), vocals, Monvelyno Alexis: electric guitar, lead vocals, percussion, Bobby Raymond: contrabass, vaksin, percussion, vocals, and Godwin Louis: soprano saxophone, alto saxophone.
$15 admission. Doors at 7:30pm. Live performance, CD signing and Q&A with the artists, hosted by Haiti Cultural Exchange's Executive Director, Régine M. Roumain. Presented by Soundkeeper Recordings, Lakou Brooklyn and Haiti Cultural Exchange.
